Application of Wide-panel Magnetic Level Indicator in Gantry Crane Power Oil Level Measurement

Gantry crane is the most common equipment on the wharf, and the monitoring of diesel level plays an important role in the normal operation of gantry crane. However, due to the severe condition, traditional magnetic level indicator has various problems during measuring procedure, such as unclearly level of display panel, inaccurate signal of remote transmitter, water penetration of display panel, and malfunction of magnetic flaps, which distress the users from Shenzhen Yantian Port. For a better solution, , the users found that Jiwei Flap-11 wide-panel magnetic level indicator is the optimal choice, after comparing and testing the other peer samples from different manufacturers. By decision, Shenzhen Yantian Port Group Co., Ltd. purchases 230 sets of Flap-11 wide-panel magnetic level indicator and Reed-11 remote transmitter to measure the level of diesel oil and engine oil of gantry crane generator units.


Severe Condition

After on-site investigation, it is found that the working condition of gantry crane generator units in Yantian Port is severe, which is mainly manifested in the following aspects:

1. Yantian Port is close to the sea, so the humid and salty environment is liable to cause instrument corrosion.


2. Typhoons occur frequently in Yantian Port, and rainwater is abundant, so instrument with low protection level is easy to be damaged by dust and vapor.

3. The gantry crane oil tank is far from the ground (usually more than 10 meters), requiring instrument to be able to observe from a long distance.

4. The vibration of gantry crane is strong, which requires the instrument to have anti-vibration ability.

5. Requires instrument that has explosion-proof certifications.

6. The PLC control system is imported, its control center can only receive the resistance value from remote transmitter, which is incompatible with the current output of 4-20 mA of domestic magnetic level indicator.

High Product Requirements

1. Strong salt-fog corrosion, high requirements on display panel.

2. Require display panel to have strong anti-vibration feature to avoid flaps flip due to vibration.

3. Require wide display panel, suitable for long-distance observation.

4. Require the protection level of magnetic level indicator reach IP66/67, to prevent instrument from being damaged by dust and water penetration.

5. Require remote transmitter to have explosion-proof certification.

6. Require the output signal of the remote transmitter be compatible with the existing PLC control system, and the number value has to be the resistance value output.

Due to the severe working condition, traditional magnetic level indicator cannot meet above requirements at all. After searching, the relevant departments of Yantian Port found that Jiwei Flap-11 magnetic level indicator has the advantages that other manufacturers do not have.
