Radar Level Meter in Wastewater Treatment and Odor Control
In modern industrial wastewater treatment and odor control projects, level monitoring is a critical component for ensuring stable system operation. Level control not only affects the normal operation of lift pumps, aeration equipment, and pipelines, but also directly impacts treatment efficiency and system safety. For wastewater treatment facilities, precise level monitoring is particularly crucial, as abnormal levels can cause pump dry-running, overflow, or equipment damage, thereby disrupting the process continuity and treatment effectiveness.

Project Overview
The project is located in Taizhou, Jiangsu Province, and serves as part of the industrial park’s wastewater treatment and odor control supporting infrastructure. The system includes multiple storage tanks, lift pump stations, aeration tanks, and odor absorption towers. Key level monitoring points include float level switches, pump station levels, and critical tank levels. The selection of level measurement equipment directly determines system reliability and maintenance costs.
According to process requirements, the project demanded high-performance, adaptable level measurement devices. Storage tank levels range from 0 to 10 meters, requiring high-precision, continuous level monitoring to ensure stable wastewater treatment operations. Given the medium’s corrosive nature, level meters must feature excellent corrosion resistance, and probe materials must withstand acidic, alkaline, and high-humidity environments for long-term reliable operation.
The level meters use standard 4–20 mA signal output, compatible with PLC or remote monitoring systems for automated data collection and process control. Equipped with LCD or TFT-LCD displays, they provide intuitive, real-time readings on site, facilitating commissioning and calibration. The compact design and flexible installation options allow adaptation to pump stations and storage tanks under various site conditions. Additionally, the design emphasizes durability and low maintenance, minimizing manual intervention and ensuring long-term stable system operation.
Considering these requirements, the project selected the Jiwei JWrada-22 radar level meter as the primary level measurement device.
Technical Advantages of Jiwei JWrada-22 Radar Level Meter
High Reliability and Stability
The JWrada-22 utilizes microwave radar pulse technology, delivering reliable and stable level measurements in various liquid media. Unlike traditional float or capacitive level meters, radar measurements are unaffected by liquid density, temperature, vapor, or foam, ensuring continuous and accurate monitoring even in wastewater containing suspended solids or bubbles.
The device features a high-brightness TFT/LCD display, allowing on-site personnel to view level changes, set measurement ranges, and adjust signal outputs directly without additional equipment. This intuitive display and convenient operation enhance commissioning efficiency.
Wide Range and Flexible Installation
The project’s level measurement spans 0–7 meters to 0–10 meters, and the JWrada-22 supports multiple range configurations, adaptable to the actual dimensions of tanks and pump stations. The compact structure allows direct threaded installation on tank tops or walls without additional brackets, suitable for space-constrained environments.
Corrosion-Resistant Design
The JWrada-22 probe is made of nylon plastic or optional metal materials, providing excellent corrosion resistance. It can withstand long-term exposure to industrial wastewater or chemical media without damage, which is crucial in wastewater treatment and odor control applications.
Standard Signal Output for Easy Integration
The JWrada-22 outputs a standard 4–20 mA signal, easily connecting to PLC or SCADA systems for automated control and remote monitoring. Operators can automatically adjust pump start/stop operations based on level data, preventing risks associated with excessively high or low levels.
Low Maintenance and Long Lifespan
The radar level meter has no mechanical contact components, avoiding wear and debris interference. Combined with corrosion-resistant materials and durable electronic components, the JWrada-22 offers a significantly longer lifespan than traditional level meters.

Project Implementation
Float Level Replacement
The original float level switch controlling 0–10 meter levels at pump stations suffered from sticking and slow response. Replacing it with the JWrada-22 enabled continuous level monitoring and PLC-controlled pump automation, resulting in smoother operation.
Critical Tank Level Control
For tanks ranging from 0–7 meters, the level meter installed at the tank top outputs 4–20 mA signals to PLC systems, enabling automated level adjustment and alarms. The LCD display allows technicians to read and calibrate levels directly on-site.
Corrosion-Sensitive Points
For tanks in contact with wastewater or chemically active liquids, corrosion-resistant probes with extension cables ensure stable long-term operation while reducing maintenance interventions.
Installation and Commissioning
- Easy Installation: Standard threaded interface requires no modifications to tank structures, saving construction time.
- Quick Commissioning: Real-time level observation on the display allows rapid range and output signal adjustment for PLC integration.
- On-Site Validation: Continuous testing confirms stable, drift-free level signals and accurate pump start/stop logic.
Operational Results
- Improved Level Monitoring Accuracy: Real-time signals are stable and accurate, smoothing pump operation and eliminating float switch fluctuations.
- Reduced Maintenance Costs: Maintenance-free radar design reduces manual inspections and enhances automation.
- Enhanced System Safety: Reliable outputs combined with PLC control enable overlevel alarms and pump overload protection.
- Significant Economic Benefits: Maintenance and downtime costs are reduced, lowering long-term operational expenses.

Conclusion
The successful application of the JWrada-22 radar level meter in the Taizhou wastewater and odor control project demonstrates its corrosion resistance, stable measurement, easy installation, and convenient commissioning. With on-site displays and minimal maintenance requirements, the device provides reliable level signals continuously, supporting long-term system stability.
This project validates the reliability of domestic high-end radar level meters and offers a replicable intelligent level monitoring solution for wastewater treatment and municipal environmental projects. Going forward, the JWrada-22 will continue to serve industries such as environmental protection, chemical processing, and food & beverage, enabling more enterprises to achieve efficient and safe automated level management.
